Myeong Gyun (Matthew) Lee

My name is Myeonggyun (Matthew) Lee and I have been in Takapuna Grammar School for about 4 years now. Takapuna Grammar School has provided me with a truly wonderful environment. It has provided me the opportunity to participate in a variety of co-curricular activities both inside and outside of the school from School Prefect to UN Youth Declaration. It has also taken me one step closer to my dream as a “Global CEO” by allowing me to learn about commerce including economics and accounting in depth. I have particularly enjoyed being in the Young Enterprise Scheme in our school’s well-known strong Business and Enterprise department where I had the chance to meet a lot of business people and learn about the ethics and morals of business in real life. In July, I was chosen to represent New Zealand in the Global Enterprise Challenge (15 countries participated) where our team came Second in the World and received scholarships toward studying in Massey University. I would not have been able to achieve all these without the help of kind teachers who are always willing to help.

Hello, I’m DK (DongKeun) and I came to Takapuna Grammar School to study about three years ago. I did not like mathematics and art when I was in Korea. But, the teachers at Takapuna Grammar school changed my mind! I already knew that I had a talent with languages and teachers at Takapuna Grammar School encouraged me in this area: especially, my English Teacher in year 12, Ms. Lynch, mathematics teacher, Ms. Turner and my Japanese teacher Mr. Lamb. These teachers are the best teachers in my life. I respect them and I want to be a teacher in the future, like them. Takapuna Grammar School’s Careers Department is also very special. They lead the students in the right direction. If the students do not know their hobbies and talents, Careers help them to find their path. At Takapuna Grammar School, everything is perfect.

Hyun Shin

I have really enjoyed my school life at Takapuna Grammar School for the last 4 years, and I’m still continuing to do so. Many of the teachers, especially in the ESOL department have helped me improve my English skills which were a great benefit to me. Thanks to them, I was chosen as one of the Prefects this year and the skills I leant in this role will be helpful in my later life.

There are ranges of subjects which lead to many different directions which will help you to get into University. Most of my subjects are based in a science so that I can have my career in the science field. Also I had lot of good experiences from TGS, such as field trips in Geography and Biology. Those trips were useful experiences that I would never have in Korea.

I can tell Takapuna Grammar School is one of the best schools in New Zealand as it has a fantastic reputation, both Nationally and Internationally since 1927. TGS offers lot of opportunities such as co-curricular activities for developing personal skills and excellence. It was my pleasure to study in Takapuna Grammar School with the best teachers and their quality teaching.

저는 지난 4년간 타카푸나 그램마 스쿨 에서 많은 흥미를 느낌과 동시에 많은 것을 배웠습니다. 많은 선생님들, 그 중 ESOL 선생님들께서 저의 영어 실력을 향상 시키도록 도와주셨습니다. 덕분에 제가 이번 년도에 International Prefect 가 되었고 이 경험은 앞으로 저의 미래에 큰 도움이 될 것입니다. 타카푸나 그램마 스쿨 에서는 폭이 넓은 과목을 선택함으로써 많은 경험을 쌓게 해주고 미래에 원하는 대학에 들어갈 수 있도록 도와줍니다. 저는 이과 계열의 과목을 선택했고 그 과목이 저를 과학 전공 계열의 직업으로 갈 수 있도록 도와줄 것입니다. 안녕하세요. 한국에 있는 경복고에서 온 Damian Shin 이라고 합니다. 제가 여기 뉴질랜드에 머문지도 이제 7개월이 다 되어가는데 이곳은 정말 최고라 자부할 수 있습니다. 혹시 해외로 가시거나 영어실력을 키우실 생각이라면, 이곳은 어떨까요? 지금까지 찾고 계신 곳 중 가장 적합한 곳이라 생각합니다. 키위(뉴질랜드 거주자)학생들과 국제학생들과 함께 어울리다 보면 자신도 모르는 사이 어느샌가 감탄할 정도의 영어를 구사하고 있는 자신을 발견하실 겁니다. 뿐만아니라 선생님들이 교정까지 해주시어 더욱 더 빠르게 영어실력을 향상시킬 수 있습니다. 이곳 학교에서 곧 뵐 수 있기를 기원합니다.

It was my pleasure to learn in Takapuna Gram mar School and it was a good start to begin my first year in Auckland. Before I came here, I was in Hamilton and I could not learn more instead of learning a language. But in TGS, teachers were always there to help the students and even trying to teach more with their high-qualified skills. I was very shy student and did not talk much, but the teachers were always willing to help me, so I could feel more comfortable to ask more and study in TGS. I was surprised how much teachers could help their students more than the students wanted to.

Sue Lim

I like studying at Takapuna Grammar School because there are more opportunities with art subjects. They have good quality of teaching in Art and Technology subjects for art programmes such as Adobe Photoshop. They also provide a good environment where you can develop yourself. The Careers Department is also very good as they help you find information about universities.

저는 아트과목에서 선택과목이 많이 있는 타카푸나 그라마 스쿨에서 공부하는것을 좋아 합니다. 아도비 포토샵과같은 좋은 프로그램과 아트와 기술과목에서  아주좋은 양질의 교수법을 가지고 있습니다. 또한 우리자신을 계발할수 있는 좋은 학습환경을 제공하고 있습니다. 진학상담부서 상담선생님들이 또한 대학에 대해 필요한 정보를 제공하고 있으며 진로에 대한 조언을 해줍니다.   –Year 12임 정 서-

 저는 타카푸나 그라마 스쿨에서 즐겁게 공부하고 있으며 학교의 시설들은 최고급이며 최상급으로 유지되고 있고 또한 특히 아트와 기술빌딩은 최근에 지어졌습니다. 제가 본교에 오기전에 타카푸나 그라마스쿨은 뉴질랜드에서  가장 우수한 학교중의 하나라고 알고 있었습니다. 그리고 본교에 오게된것이 저의 인생에 아주중요한 결정이었습니다.  제가 처음에 뉴질랜드공항에 도착했을때 홈스테이 담당자 Mrs Worsley가 기다리고 있었으며 따뜻한 포응으로 저를 환영했습니다. 본교에는 친절하고 우수한 선생님들이 유학생들을 잘보호 관리하고 있기때문에 저는 향수에 빠지지 않고 뉴질랜드에서 공부를 잘할수 있었습니다. 뉴질랜드에서 성공적으로 공부하기를 원한다면 본교에서 공부하는것을 적극적으로 추천합니다.   –Year 13신 지 원-

Dae Ho Park

It was pleasure to study at Takapuna Grammar School. TGS has a high quality environment, teachers and students. These surroundings enable us to focus more on study. Especially the teachers who helped me a lot. They have got really good teaching skills and encourage us to do our best. They see our potential and always believe in us. This is why our school is the top school in New Zealand. Another thing is that the teachers put in a lot of effort to raise student achievement. Recently our school built a new building and they are planning to build another new building  next year which tells us the school wants to put us in a better environment for study. I think our school is the best in New Zealand.

Jung Yeon Kim

In my opinion, Takapuna Grammar School is a wonderful school to attend not only because of the kind students and smart teachers, who always amaze me with the interesting information they teach us but also because it is neither too competitive nor too easy as other schools may be. I believe that the school understands the students by teaching us in a way that is fun, appealing and can prepare us for our future school years. We are taught to think and learn for ourselves with a little direction instead of being told exactly what to do, helping us to be more independent. The students services centre is also extremely useful, especially with the counsellors as students can confidentially discuss and find solutions to their concerns. Everyday I enjoy attending this school and cannot find any negative aspects. The teachers understand the fact that every student is different, with various capabilities so I find every subject enjoyable with teachers who are always willing to help.

본교는 단지 친절한 학생들과 흥미있는 교육내용으로 항상 저를 놀라게 하는총명하신 선생님뿐 아니라 너무경쟁적이지도 않고 혹시 다른학교처럼 너무쉽지도 않은 과정을 제공하고 있습니다. 학교는  학생들의 흥미를 유도하며   다음과정을 준비할수 있도록가르칩니다. 저희는 정확히 무엇을 하라고 지시받기보다는  간략하게 주어진방향에 따라 스스로 생각하고 배우는 보다 독자적인 학습방법에 따라 공부하고 있습니다. 학생서비스센터도 아주 유용하며특별히 학생들의 문제에 대해 카운슬러가 비밀보장하에 이루어지는 의논과 해결제시방법은 탁월합니다. 저는 즐겁게 학교를 다니며 다른 부족한 부분은 볼수가 없습니다.  선생님들은   각각의 학생이 다르고  또 학습능력이 다르다는것을 이해하여  저는 항상 기꺼이 도우시는 선생님들과의 수업을 즐기고 있습니다.
