Which Mathematics Should I take In year 13? Few first year University courses have Mathematics as a prerequisite. (For Health Sciences and Engineering Year 13 Calculus is a must). Some second and third year courses however, require University Mathematics (calculus) and/or statistics as prerequisites for which year 13 Mathematics preparation is very necessary. Many courses recommend that students have studied some Mathematics at University even if it is not compulsory.
It is very difficult to pick up Calculus at University if a student has only taken Statistics at school. It is less difficult however for a Calculus student to pick up Statistics. If a student can only fit one option into his/her timetable, is still unsure as to which maths to take and has equal ability in Mathematics the choice should be Calculus. For further advice see H.O.D. Maths or CATS.
