Enviro Challenge is a competition between local schools to promote environmental care and sustainability. Takapuna Grammar School’s team was placed 3rd in the event which was held in May. They gave a Powerpoint presentation of the school’s carbon footprint, and produced a video and poster. The theme was “Switch on. Turn it Off ” - reducing power usage by turning off lights, computers and appliances. The group’s video was a highlight - a unique 90-second clip made of 163 individual pictures, hand-drawn by Gaby Miegeville-Little showing the effects of non-renewable energy - and won its category.
At the end of the event one ambassador was chosen from each school to attend a leadership workshop to support students in bringing sustainable change to their schools. The ambassador chosen for Takapuna Grammar School is Victoria Timmins, who will be attendingthe 5 day course in July.
