| Fees |
|
- The fee for International Students for 2011 is $NZ 14,800. This consists of an annual administration fee of $1600 and a tuition fee of $3,300 per term. The administration fee is non refundable. Students will also be responsible for:
- Trips - Including Year 12 Geography, Year 12 Physical Education, Year 10 Outdoor Education, Year 11 Physical Education, Year 13 History and local field trips
- Examination Fees - Including NZQA, and local examinations.
- Subject Fees - Where there is a substantial “ take home ” component. This includes subjects in the Arts area such as Practical Art, Photography, Design, Painting and Sculpture, in the Technology area including Design Technology, Soft and Hard Materials, Fashion and Design and Textiles, Electronics and Food and Hospitality. These fees are set annually and will be notified in a fees chart which will be issued annually.
- Because Year 9 courses are compulsory, the course fees for this level are covered by the tuition fee. Separate accounts for subject fees will be sent out during the year. Some fees will be required to be paid at the time that courses are confirmed.

| Application Requirements |
|
- All applications must be made on the official application forms. Where an application is made from within New Zealand, an interview with the student will be required to assess whether the proficiencies and career intentions of the prospective international student are matched by the educational opportunities offered by Takapuna Grammar School. Where an application is made from outside New Zealand, unless the student is interviewed by a member of the staff from the school, it will be done through a contracted agent in accordance with Section 9 of the Code of Practice.
- Once a student is accepted and has been provided with all the information required of the school by the Code of Practice, an offer of place will be made. Until such time as fees are paid and all documentation supplied as required (including visa, signed contract, home stay and guardianship names and addresses, insurance coverage), the student may not begin their course.

| Conditions of Acceptance |
|
All student enrolments are subject to the following conditions:- All contracts are for a period that terminates at the end of an academic year. Renewal of that contract is at the mutual agreement of both the student’s parents/guardian and the School.
- All international students must be accommodated in a home stay that is approved by the School. All international students must be living under adequate adult supervision. Where the student is over the age of 19, he or she may board or flat subject to the School approving the living arrangements. Where in the School’s opinion these living arrangements are unsatisfactory, the School has the right to require an alternative homestay.
- International students must attend the School on all days that is it open for tuition and where it is necessary for an international student to absent themselves from the School the reason for that absence must be communicated to the School. Where International students continue to absent themselves from the School for no valid reason they run the risk of having their contract with Takapuna Grammar School revoked. If this occurs the Immigration Department will be informed using the standard form.
- International students must have a caregiver/sponsor/guardian appointed in the Auckland area who has the overall responsibility for the student while they are studying at the School.
- The student must abide by the rules and regulations that cover all students whilst at the School. A copy of the School’s Policies is available for inspection at the School’s Office and all rules are published in the school’s prospectus. Failure to follow the School’s rules or policies could result in the enrolment being terminated by the School under the Education (Stand-down, Suspension, Exclusion and Expulsion) Rules 1999.
- Students should not drive a motor vehicle to or from school until such time as they have produced a current driving licence that is valid for New Zealand and produce proof of a paid Insurance policy, at least third party.
- It is a requirement of enrolment that all International Students carry a comprehensive medical and travel insurance while enrolled at Takapuna Grammar School. Photocopied evidence of insurance not arranged through the school must be provided prior to the Student taking up any offer of place. (see appendix 1)

| Refund Conditions |
|
- In the event that the student wishes to leave the School the Guardian must give a written explanation as to why the student wishes to leave, and give one term’s written notice of the withdrawal of the student from the School.
- Where the Applicant gives notice of withdrawal of the Student during the term the next term’s tuition fee will be forfeited, eg, where written notice is given in term one, term two’s tuition fee will be forfeited and the tuition fees in respect of terms three and four may be refunded.
- If the student wishes to transfer to another school no refund will be given. Students make a commitment to enrol at Takapuna Grammar School for the school year. Students who become New Zealand residents while at Takapuna Grammar School must give one term’s notice to the school as above. They must then reapply as a resident student and will be subject to the school’s normal enrolment scheme and procedures.
- Where a student is required to leave the school for disciplinary or non attendance reasons (see conditions of acceptance), no refund will be given.

| Fees Protection |
|
- To protect International Students’ tuition fees, the school draws down the fees paid retrospectively each term.

|
|
|
|
| English Language Proficiencies |
|
- There are no specific English language proficiencies that are a condition of enrolment. All students will be assessed on taking up a place at the school and courses of study arranged accordingly. That assessment may result in a requirement that the student include an ESOL subject or subjects in his or her course of study.
- All efforts will be made to assess a student’s level of English language proficiency prior to a place being offered. Where this is not possible through assessment or interview, a place may be offered conditional on a period of study at a language school being undertaken should that proficiency on taking up a place at the school be found to be insufficient to enable academic success.

| Courses and Qualifications |
|
- Takapuna Grammar School delivers a curriculum that reflects the New Zealand Curriculum Framework. Students at Year 9 and 10 are required to complete a common core of subjects.
- The curriculum in the Senior School reflects the requirements of the National Qualifications Framework. All international students are expected to enter for the New Zealand Qualifications Authority examinations.
- The subjects that a student studies will be approved by the Director of International Students or her nominee. Determining factors will include:
- the level of English language that the student possesses. - evidence of prior learning or equivalent study. - the criteria set by Senior Management for course entry. - the likelihood of successful educational outcomes.
- International students in selecting their courses will be provided with Subject Information booklets that describe qualifications, subject content and assessment and entry requirements.

| Accomodation |
|
- All accommodation for students under the age of 19 will be in a home stay or with parents. The International Students Coordinator will oversee and inspect all home stays. Takapuna Grammar School employs the services of home stay companies to arrange home stays and requires these companies to meet Section 10 of the Code of Practice. Requests for home stay are listed on the International Student Application form.
- Where the guardian takes the responsibility for locating a home stay for a students under the age of 19, they will be required to meet the conditions laid down under Sections 15 and 16 of the Code of Practice. Costs of home stays are $230 per week (2011)plus $350 Homestay Placement fee.

| Leave |
|
- Students should not be applying for leave for personal travel during school time, unless there is compelling reason to do so. This could include the visit of parents, an event organised through agents or where they are doing so as part of the activities of a host family, or accompanying an approved school trip.
- Under the provisions of the “Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students” the school has an obligation to ensure that leave is only granted where it can be assured that the student will be supervised by approved adults and will be living in accommodation that meets the appropriate standard.
- All leave must be applied for at least six weeks in advance, and must include signed permission from parents/caregivers.
- Leave will not be granted where the agent of a student who is acting as a guardian denies permission.
If leave is taken without approval or when approval has been denied by the school, this will be regarded as a serious breach of discipline and could involve disciplinary procedures up to and including expulsion or exclusion.

| Appendix 1: Insurance |
|
- All international students enrolled at Takapuna Grammar School, whether individual or group, are required under regulation to have appropriate medical and travel insurance. This may be a group or individual policy. The insurance policy should be in place at
the time the student takes up his or her “offer of place” and before they leave their home if enrolled from overseas or when tuition costs are met if resident in New Zealand. The International Manager will verify all policies prior to students commencing their studies.
- Takapuna Grammar has recommended insurers. If this insurer is not used then the school must be satisfied that the medical and travel insurance meets its requirements as listed below.
- Students are required to supply an English translated copy of the insurance policy
and evidence of its currency. This will be filed by the International Manager and will be monitored annually.
- Policy requirements:
Where a student has separate travel and medical insurance, the travel insurance should include: a) Loss of baggage and other personal effects b) Accident and injury c) Disruption to travel plans d) The cost of medical care in any “stopover” countries
Combined medical and travel insurance should: a) Commence when leaving home for the airport, while in transit and within New Zealand or trips to other destinations and holidays back to their home country. b) Contain high sums insured (from $1,000,000 to unlimited cover, full medical, optical and dental cover plus a low excess) c) Include emergency evacuation and repatriation, personal effects, and accompanying relative cover d) Ensure personal effects are covered and personal liability can be met e) Address continuation should a student have to interrupt their studies
- In assessing the validity of insurance cover from providers outside the recommended insurers, the school will consider:
a) Whether the insurer is a reputable and established experience in the travel insurance business, and has an excellent credit rating. b) If the insurer is able to provide emergency 24-hour, 7 day a week cover. c) If students are able to have a “certificate of currency” an policy wording stating that the student has purchased the cover for the duration of the planned period of study.
